What is the PSW?
The PSW is a workshop for all young scientists from Germany and neighbouring countries that are involved in the research of photosynthesis and in the emerging field of “Green Energy” where it is related with plant and photosynthesis science.
It is well known that communicational skills and networking are essential in the modern scientific world. The PSW provides young scientists with a unique platform to present and discuss their scientific research of their Master-, Diploma- or PhD-thesis in two days of talks and poster presentations to participants “on eye level”.

Who is organizing the PSW?
The PSW is organized by PhD students of research groups working on photosynthesis and related topics. It takes place at another university every year. In 2012, the PhD students of the research group of Prof. Dr. Harald Paulsen of the Institute of General Botany will have the honour to present the 21st Photosynthesis Workshop at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz.

Who is attending the PSW?
The PSW is organized by young academics for young academics. The typical visitor is working on a PhD, master or diploma thesis in the field of question. However, if you are doing a great job in the research for your bachelor thesis, or if you have just finished your PhD and would like to give a talk on it, you are certainly welcome as well.

Do I have to give a talk?
No. However, be assured that this is a unique opportunity for you to present your work to an audience this much “on eye-level”, and it is a great chance to do some first steps in public presentation. And obviously it is nice to share and talk over the own work with others specialized in the same field.

Do I have to present a poster?
No. However, a poster presentation is strongly advised. How else should other participants learn about your project, get involved in an interesting conversation about it and become your major collaboration partner for the next years?
You have just started your project and no presentable results so far? Well, line out your project, what and how you are intending to do it, and be sure to get valuable hints and tips…

Why should I attend the PSW?
Because it offers you the possibility to:

How much is the fee? What do I have to pay?
There is no fee.
We make a strong point at making the PSW 2012 affordable for all young scientists, in order not to exclude those with worse financial background. Of course, coffee, soft drinks and snacks will be offered in the breaks, as well as the lunch in our canteen. Day passes for the bus system are going to be provided for free for all participants for both days of the workshop. So it is just expenses for your travel to and from Mainz, and accommodation (check for budget accommodation) that you have to cover.

I am not working on Photosynthesis – can I attend the PSW?
This obviously depends on what you are working on. We have, for the first time this year, added an extra focus on the emerging field of “Green Energy” where it is related with plant and photosynthesis science. If this describes the framework of your research, please be welcome to PSW 2012!

When does the PSW 2012 take place?
The PSW 2012 will take place during two days, on August the 9th to 10th. There will be talks and poster sessions on both days (see also “schedule”).
